Welcome in
The Dordogne

The Dordogne

The Périgord, a region sprinkled with sleepy villages, cultural cities, caves, and its 1001 castles.

Lanquais

A village where time stood still, with only 500 inhabitants, fully classified by heritage preservation.

Bidou

A paradise for hikers, kayakers, or mountain bikers.
Enjoy abundant nature, fishing, horseback riding, or perhaps take a canoe trip on the Dordogne or the Vézère.

‟GR”

Have you ever heard of a "GR"?
These letters are used throughout Europe by hikers and mountain bikers, and they stand for "Grande Randonnée," which essentially means "long hike" or "Great Routes."
The origin of the Grande Randonnée dates back to 1947 in France.
These trails are and have been marked by volunteers and they traverse only the most beautiful places in Europe with white-red markings.
Meanwhile, there are over 80,000 km of GR trails throughout Europe!
One of these hiking trails (GR No. 6) runs beside our house.
The "GR" trails are also very popular among mountain bikers, so be sure to bring your mountain bike along.

Evening markets, flea markets, weekly markets, bric-a-brac markets...

In the summer, there's almost always a market happening somewhere, whether it's an evening market, a flea market, or a bric-a-brac market; there's always something to experience.
Feel free to ask us which markets you can visit during your stay.
During the weekends (especially in July and August), there's almost always a flea market happening somewhere.
Click on Flea Markets in the Dordogne to see where the "vide grenier" is.
Also enjoyable are the "food markets" held during the summer,
from mid-June to mid-September. Often accompanied by local music groups, here you can select a meal from local vendors and have it prepared on-site, with local wine also available.

Culinary delights in the Dordogne

The Dordogne is rightly nicknamed the "royaume de la gueulle" or "kingdom of the palate."
Synonymous with delicious food, the local cuisine is famous among gastronomes.
Renowned specialties include truffles, confit de canard, foie gras, cheeses, nuts, porcini mushrooms, and especially the wines of Bergerac.
We ourselves are avid mushroom gatherers; during the season,
you can always join us on a mushroom hunt!
